Expanding Role of Geomatics in Integrated Analysis of Structural and Ground Deformations

(Anna Szostak-Chrzanowski, Adam Chrzanowski and Maciej Bazanowski, Canadian Centre for Geodetic Engineering, University of New Brunswick and Michel Massiéra, Faculté d'ingénierie (génie civil), Université de Moncton

Development of new technologies for continuous and fully automatic monitoring structural and ground deformations increases the role of geomatics in the analysis and physical interpretation of deformations. By combining results of deterministic modelling and results of monitoring, one can find not only the geometrical changes of investigated objects but also verifies material parameters and identifies the deformation mechanism. Deterministic modelling of the load-deformation relationship provides information on the magnitude and location of expected critical deformations as well as delineates the deformation zone. The concept is illustrated by practical example of long behaviour of large dam in California.
